Nike Hoop Summit 2007

La ciudad de Memphis acogió anoche una nueva edición del Nike Hoop Summit, donde se enfrentaron los mejores high schoolers americanos contra las jóvenes promesas europeas. Los equipos contaban entre sus filas con algunos de los jugadores que más expectativas crean entre los analistas del Draft de cara al 2008, como son OJ Mayo, Derrick Rose o Michael Beasley. Por su parte, el combinado europeo presentaba un roster en el que podiamos encontrar a Nemanja Aleksandrov, Nicolas Batum o Alexis Ajinca, entre otros.

Es interesante recordar que este partido, que viene precedido de una semana de workouts, es seguido muy de cerca por los scouts de la NBA y, concretamente el año pasado, la actuacion de Muhammed Saer Sene en el combinado europeo le valió para ser seleccionado por los Seattle Sonics con el número 10 en el último draft. En ese mismo partido actuaron el año pasado jugadores como Kevin Durant o Brandan Wright.

El partido de este año finalizó con un tanteo de 100 a 80, favorable al conjunto americano. La peculiaridad de esta edicion se pudo ver con la actuación de Ryan Richards, un jugador de orígen inglés que milita en el filial del Gran Canaria, que con 15 años se convirtió en el jugador más joven en participar en el evento. A la espera de nuevos informes del evento, los analistas presentes en el partido consideraron a Derrick Rose como el jugador más importante de USA, por encima incluso del afamado OJ Mayo. Por su parte, el equipo europeo tuvo en Nicolas Batum a su jugador más destacado, junto al finlandés Petteri Koponen, que ha completado una semana más que interesante. Decepcionante actuación del chino Chen Jinghua, que en la selección china tuvo una destacada actuación contra USA en los últimos mundiales.

Una vez finalizada la semana toca analizar como ha afectado el evento al stock de los diferentes jugadores. Por la parte europea, los jugadores más beneficiados parecen ser el base finlandés, Petteri Koponen, el alero francés Nicolas Batum y el israelí Omri Casspi. En cambio, los que peor parados salen del Nike Hoop son el chino Chen Jinghua y el también francés Alexis Ajinca, que se vieron completamente desbordados por los americanos. Finalmente, destacar el regreso a las pistas de Nemanja Aleksandrov, antiguo candidato al número 1 del draft tras dos años de graves lesiones.

Por parte del combinado USA, el partido no ofreció muchas novedades respecto al McDonald´s. Micheal Beasley pareció afectado por la decision de Huggins de cambiar de Universidad y tuvo una noche nefasta con el tiro, mientras que OJ Mayo en cambio tuvo una actuación mucho más destacada que en el anterior evento. Destacar la potencia en la zona de Patrick Patterson y la visión e inteligencia de Kevin Love, que la próxima campaña militará en los Bruins de UCLA.
